BIOGRAPHY
Paige MacQuin is a mixed-media studio artist from a small town located outside Nashville, NC. Now residing in Raleigh, NC, she focuses on building her career as a studio artist. Her work blends acrylic, textiles, and found materials to create rich textures that reflect her connection to nature, memory, faith, and emotion.
Through her work, she explores the balance between creativity and calm, offering a space to process life’s complexities. Inspired by the constant transformation of nature and her inner world, she reflects on personal identity and emotional growth. Through this process, she turns past experiences into meaningful, reflective art that offers both comfort and connection.
Paige’s work has been exhibited twice in Meredith College's 41st and 42nd Annual Juried Student Art Exhibition. She also exhibited at the Rocky Mount Imperial Center for Arts in the 26th Annual Handcrafted Exhibition. After graduating in 2025 with her bachelor's in studio art, Paige will continue exhibiting her work as a studio artist and creating a small business to sell her work.
ARTIST STATEMENT
Through my artwork, I explore creativity and tranquility to create a personal sanctuary that allows me to transform stress and anxiety into moments of joy and self-reflection. Each piece becomes a visual extension of my experiences in life, capturing my memories, thoughts, and feelings through calming visuals. I draw inspiration from the calmness of nature and the ever-changing landscapes within myself. Through my work, I reflect on both personal identity and emotional growth.
Embracing mixed media processes, I use collage techniques to blend collected trash, shells, leaves, or flowers with graphite, paint, and textiles. I repurpose these objects to enrich my pieces with various textures and to support environmental sustainability with my work. I intentionally build depth and character by layering collected materials with more traditional mediums to shape a narrative within each piece. I illustrate memories and landscapes by combining textures with the calmness of cool tones. The push-and-pull interplay of drawing and painting allows me to merge contrasting elements that serve as relief and closure for past experiences. This method lets me use personal expression to find acceptance under challenging occurrences. I construct imaginary environments that reflect chaotic and soothing aspects of my life, merging the softness of nature with the boldness of abstract textures. By harmonizing peace with creativity, these diverse materials and techniques enable me to explore my identity and embrace personal acceptance.
Art is more than a practice for me; it is a reflection of my journey and values. It represents a space where my creativity flourishes and where I can process and express the complexities of life. I create to connect with others, inspiring them to embrace their creative paths and find moments of calm among life’s challenges. It is important to celebrate beauty in all its forms and to build spaces where others can find comfort and relief.
